Welcome to Tim's Ter-ROO-fic TM Web Site. This is where I pick out from all the thousands of homepages I browse the sites that I think are especially fun, interesting, or downright neat. For a list of my favorite cartoon and entertainment-related sites be sure to check out my Toons page.
In Part One of our look at Independent Media, we focused on Internet news outlets and their ability to bring an angle to breaking news that is usually overlooked by ratings-oriented corporate news organizations.
In Part Two, The Independent Media Center is back in the forefront, with news coverage of the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas (FTAA) conference, 19-21 April 2001, in Montreal. Independent media coverage of this event takes a lot of courage, considering the level of force the Canadian government is rolling out in response to the protests against the FTAA.
Regardless of where you stand on these issues, you owe it to yourself to see what independent voices are saying about these important current events. Check out their reports, and compare the coverage of the same events to what you see on Disney-owned ABC News, for example. I think you will find it very enlightening.
